I've already practiced for an hour, and I've picked up on the low tones, but I have to continue to practice for the high tones. I vow to become a legendary pan-flutist! Thank you Melinda and Brad ! The flutes arrived on Saturday and they are beautiful. As one of your admirers wrote in a youtube entry, "Now I have to practice in getting more than just a coke-bottle sound."
Base notes seem to be easier. I'm encouraged, though, because I found the youtube video of the pan flute ensemble of a whole bunch of kids playing! Its all in the embouchure at this stage. Since I got it on the didgeradoo and the tenor sax and a bamboo transverse flute, I should be able to get it on the pan flute. Relax, Brian, relax, relax.
I'm packing the Fun Flute with me off to Los Angeles for a family holiday visit. My parents are 86 and I'm sure my dad will enjoy my practice sessions.

Just a note to let you know our PAN FLUTE arrived Monday afternoon J J J. There was much excitement in the St-----d household! Because of my flute background, I was able to get music from it straight away. I stayed up WAY TOO LATE that evening trying every song in the book that you sent. A lot of those songs my daughter has covered in her Suzuki violin. The children are still working on their blowing technique, and I’m sure they’ll get it soon. We’ll watch the DVD tomorrow.
Thank you so much for the book and the DVDs you sent. Do you keep your pan flute in a case? I want to protect it when it isn’t being played. I thought I could make a quilted cover for it, but that might not be strong enough.

Hi Robin, a quilted cover would be nice. If I am traveling I put my smaller instruments in a briefcase or computer bag and the larger ones in a small carry-on type luggage. Glad you are enjoying your flutes.

[Kevin is trying his Tenor pan-flute for the first time. A beginner]
Managed to get my very first note, so pleased. Takes a bit more effort getting the rest, I can manage 5 notes/tones so far. Each time I go back to it I have to find the first tone all over again, but it's a start.
The DVD is very informative and that helped me get the first note. However, my breathing technique is in disarray as I keep on wanting to faint. So I'll have to focus allot more on my breathing, as explained in the DVD. The first note was 'G' I think? The further most pipe to the right. Is that a good start?
My initial experience when I got the note was that the sound traveled right through my stomach, that deep hollow tone, breathtaking... excuse the (pan) pun.
A wonderful piece of music you've compiled Brad, the CD is brilliant.

My Tenor panflute arrived safely today. I was very pleased when I opened the box and saw it was so nicely wrapped for Christmas with ribbons and a candy cane. That was a nice surprise. Then when I read your note on the box I was pleased again. Thank you for the good wishes. On opening the box and peeling away the white paper it was wrapped in, I was once again pleased at what lay before me. I watched your video and I read the beginning of the book and I started to play around with the panflute and by the end of my time with it I was starting to make some pretty good tones. Just wanted to let you know I received the panflute last week. I was surprised that it is so comfortable to hold. Somehow I expected it to be awkward but I was very wrong. It seems to be a very natural instrument. Your craftsmanship is very nice, also.
I'm really enjoying it. At first I couldn't get a sound out of it and immediately concluded I made a huge mistake. Then, after reading the information you sent along with the introductory parts of the book I realized it will take time and discipline/practice. It requires more air than I expected -- partly, I am sure, based on my expectations from the beautiful, seemingly effortless, round tones you get from it. I will have to dig deep into my past high school band days to revive the old breathing protocols...
Now, after a few days of (attempting) to play it I am optimistic and very pleased. I look forward to this adventure. I hope you are serious about answering questions and helping me over some of the obstacles I am certain to find. I will need it, and I'm guessing there aren't many panflute instructors anywhere near me.

Hi Fred,
You will find that once your embouchure develops more, it will require only a fraction of the air you are now using... because, at this point, you are probably wasting a lot of it. As you learn to focus the air stream your sound will get clearer and sweeter.. and use much less air. Eventually you will be able to play up and down all the pipes of the panflute on a single breath.
So keep practicing and after the Holidays I will have more time to help you.

I just want to say what a remarkable experiance you have introduced me to. I really enjoy learing how to play the tenor series pipes. I have really clear sound on all but the last 4 or 5. I am still working on those. I am pleased with the sound on these. I will be happy when I can put it all together. I would like to ask you though, what are the notes from the smallest pipe to the biggest. I dont know if you have something layed out on paper so that I can associate the pipes by looking at them. Thanks also for the personal tips on caring and tuning of the panflute. I'm really very excited and went straight away to the music room to try it out and wow! Thanks alot for the fine instrument, the quality is nice. I'm having a little trouble converting all of my air into sound, but it'll come along I suppose. Playing the various tunes is easier on the pan flute than on the piano, for instance. I play the pan flute whenever I get a break from the service.

One of my bandmates purchased a zampona at a music festival in my city recently, and it got me pretty interested in the panflute.
After much shopping around, I decided to order one of your "Fun pipes", which arrived in the mail today (with some nice personalized notes)
I made a very good choice. The instrument is clean, sturdy, and sounds magnificent. The DVD is helpful and informative. As a harmonica player, I had no trouble at all achieving some pleasant vibrato effects and sharp notes. I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun with these pipes around campus.

Hi Melinda and Brad,
Just to advise you that my panflute, together with book, DVD and midweek newspaper (free gift?) arrived at 10:00 this morning - all in perfect condition (really good packing). I did not expect it so soon, as in this part of Spain the month of August is full of different fiestas, and postal deliveries to the small villages are down to twice weekly. There is a Spanish Correos sticker on the box dated 22 August. so it only took 5 days to get into Spain, and only a total of 8 days to get to my house in the hills! - not bad at all !
I'm really thrilled with the instument - it's beautifully made, and I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of pleasure with it. I have just had a quick blow and managed to play 'Twinkle, twinkle little star' -- sounds a bit jerky but not bad for a five minute beginer, although I'm sure being a harmonica player for many years certainly helps.
I can't thank you enough for the exellent service that you have given me, right from my very first enquiry I was made to feel almost as if I was a memrber of the family.
Once again thank you very much and I will let you know how I get on with your DVD. All the best for the future.

TGIF (Thank God It's Friday) proved to be very apt this week as my Grand Tenor arrived safe and sound. It looks and sounds beautiful. I managed to get sound from all the tubes on the first try, although the highest three or four notes were rather frightening I do have to admit - even my cats ran for cover! (I guess they figured I needed more practice) After some experimenting with mouth and lip positions, they are not quite so quick to flee the room now.....lol.

Tenor arrived! there was great excitement and of course I had to try it out
immediately. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I thought I really need to
read some instructions here and once I got the mouth position right I was
surprised at how simply the sound just came. So with boldness and brashness
I launched into a very feeble attempt of Danny Boy. Haven't mastered the
high notes yet, but can't have been too bad, because My Mum recognised the
tune.(she's 86) I also have a challenge as one of my sons (he's 26)saw the
Flute and picked it up for a look. I have told him he's not to touch it
until I have learnt at least 6 songs! As he's very 'naturally' talented
musically, can't read a note of music but can pick up practically any
instrument and play it. I shall certainly do the formal lessons but I can
see that playing by ear is also going to be so much fun.

Heya Brad,
I just got back from vacation and am finally getting to get started with this beautiful pan flute… I only had it in my hands once before I left, and I finally got time to sit down with her tonight… at the moment I am just working on getting sounds out of each pipe, and staying upright, because of the abnormal use of my lungs until they get used to it. I am practicing the breathing and blowing techniques and I can get most of the pipes but the high ones right now…
I really love the looks and feel of the instrument, it is a quality, solid, piece of craftsmanship, and I very much look forward to getting more acquainted with it…
If you have any tips for me just let me know, I would like to stay in contact and try to keep up to date with you on my progress and questions if that would be ok…

Just a quick note to let you know my new Grand Tenor Panflute has arrived on
my doorstep this morning (7am Sat NZ time, 4 days travel time), and looks and sounds beautiful.
This time the box had been opened by NZ's MAF Quarantine Service (who are
suspicious of any natural product that could pose a biosecurity risk) but
they were very careful in putting everything back and resealing it nicely.
I appreciate your personal interest in someone who is new to the art of
playing the pan flute and enjoy reading your comments (and those of others)
on the pan flute discussion forum.
I am now the proud of owner of 3 x pan flutes (did you read my email about
the solid-wood pan flute I acquired locally, tuned to Bb?) and look forward
to many hours of practising and making music in different keys.

Thank you so much. What started out as my two girls bringing home some toys (i.e. little toy pan flutes) has really turned into a musical journey for me. I started doing some research on them and loved the simplicity. You see I couldn’t read music at all, before. When I ordered the fun pipes I also ordered the book "You Can Teach Yourself Pan Flute" which gives a very basic introduction to sight-reading music. These two together have been perfect. Along with your DVD starter lessons I’m on my way. Nothing GREAT now; but, BOY is it fun! My oldest daughter (7) loves it too - we get to learn how to read and play music together!

Hi Brad,
I got home yesterday from my week of teaching in Texas, and found my panpipe waiting for me. I'm very pleased with the instrument so far. The craftsmanship is high quality and the sound is beautiful. I love how the instrument vibrates in your hands as you play. I had to adjust the tuning more or less on each pipe, but that's probably because every player is slightly different. The DVD is very useful and the book as well, although too much of the book, for my purposes, is taken up with the rudiments of music. But the music examples are fun and certainly challenging enough for me as a beginner.
I look forward to working with this instrument as a miskal on the Ottoman court repertory. I'll be meeting with the director of the group Dünya out here in Boston in August to work on makams and repertory, and I'll let you know how it goes. Check out their website...very interesting group!

What a difference it makes when you have a good flute in your hands. When I opened up the box and took your flute out of the box I was so excited. The firat thing I noticed was the weight of the flute. it is aquite a bit heavier than the streetfaire flute, and how the beveling at the mouth section was so much easier to role a note or to simply find a better position. What I noticed the most was how easy it was to play each of the fifteen notes at first try!!! I still cannot play the top four notes of the streetfair flute. And the street faire flute it is very ruff around the mouth piece and I thought that was normal and my lips would toughen up after playing it for awhile....not.
After playing your flute with such smooth beveled edges I now know what a quality instrument is and what is a piece of junk is...
I am so greatful to find your website and I will start the lesson sunday with my little angel!!!!
Please let me know when the 22 pipe flute is ready. Minna has already adopted the 15 pipe as hers, smile.

Well, today is May 31and I received my pan flute!!!!!!YEA!!!!!! That was REALLY quick! When you consider that I ordered it May 26 and received it today (May 31) and that I live in Kansas. Wow. I didn't know you could get mail that fast. Of course it's because you all sent it right out. I appreciate that so very much....Would you believe that I had to open it right there at the post office so that our post mistress (who is into music too) could see it and see if she could play it? Such is a small town. But we (her, my daughter, and I) had a great time undoing the package, taking care of the peanuts, etc. Thanks again. I haven't really gotten to practice it much yet as I've had to take it to friends' houses to "show it off" and also to let them listen to the CD I ordered. As one of my friends said, "I could listen to this CD all day." It's been fun. Now comes the hard part - learning to play. Hi Brad,
I hope this little note finds you and Melinda keeping well. I have been
practising every single day after I get home from work, doing the exercises
in the book and making steady progress. After a few weeks I feel as though I
have turned a corner and have discovered how to subtlely change the nuance
of notes with the right combination of embouchure and air pressure. I even
discovered how to do what I can only describe as a "seagull" sound, where
you allow the note to fall slightly, giving it that "haunting" sound. I
don't know what the technical term for that is, but I presume you know what
I mean!
Playing the pan flute is truly an art and I have a newfound respect for
gifted artists such as yourself and Georges Zamfir! The other day someone
lent me a CD called "Panpipes Play The Beatles." Intrigued, I put in the CD
player and just about gagged. Someone was playing the "panpipes" on their
synthesizer!
I am going to save up towards buying the Grand Tenor in C so I can expand
the range of keys in which I can play. Please reserve one for me!

I got my pan-flute today! It looks so nice. I was able to get a tone out of each pipe which was very exciting to me. I am going to have a lot of fun with my pan-flute for many years to come. Hey Brad,
I know it has only been a day of me having my pan- flute, and I having so much fun. I have already figured out how to play, just by listening to music from you and others. I have already figured out how to play the lord of the rings little theme that you played and I played nearer my god to thee, and the beauty and the beast clip you played.
I was amazed on how quickly I picked it up. I was able to get tones out of each pipe. Using my ear I was able to figure out when you needed to do slight tilting of the instrument to get the sharp or flat needed in parts of the songs. I even added a little vibrato in places ( being that I play the cello I got the hang of it easily) Not that it is as smooth or perfect yet. I am so glad I purchased this instrument from you. Still need a lot of practice to play the songs running smoothly through. But that will come in time.
I was wondering do you have any other suggestions of songs that I could figure out how to play with the patatonic pan pipes that I have? I am not sure which songs would work for that specific pan-flute.

Please excuse me, it's a very rough home-made recording (I'm not a sound engineer), and my playing is full of mistakes as you will hear, but you should be able to recognise the song. I'm just writing to tell you how excited I was to receive my [tenor] panflute. I know it will take me a while to get a hang of the notes, since that part is so much different from the silver flute. But anything is possible, and I was able to get good tone and sound after the first 2 tries. Even vibrato. The DVD was very helpful too. I apologize that you didn't hear from me earlier (I received the panflute like 3 days after I ordered it...wow! Quick...), but I was away in Michigan visiting family for a while. And since I got home, I've been working some weird shifts doing xrays at my hospital. You know, those hours when people should be in bed.....
Well, anyway, I appreciate everything, and I will certainly try my best in learning the panflute, I love the sound it produces. Hopefully I can gain some confidence.

I always liked the sound of panflutes and got myself a cheap toy some years ago. I learned to play it by acciendtly finding Brads website and his little introductional video, but I never really got into it though. Some weeks ago I thought about really trying to learn the panflute and remembered Brads website.
It wasn't easy to decide which instrument to buy (or if I should try to learn it at all), but Brad helped me a lot and always answered very fast to my mails. I finally ordered the beginners package and I'm glad that I did! It only took 6 days to arrive (from Hawaii to Germany - thats pretty fast!).
The package really is awesome and inculdes everything a beginner needs. The panflute itself is very nice and easy to play (no comparison to my toy flute).
I had doubts about the book because of its childish cover artwork, but it really is a serious book. The best thing is Brads DVD though. The lesson is very informative, fun to watch and Brad talks about everything you need to know at the beginning. I was already able to play the panflute a little bit, but the book and DVD showed me all the little details and got me on the right way! I'm practicing almost everyday and it really is a lot of fun, and I already see & hear first results after barely a week.
Brads service is phenomenal too, he answers every mail and is a cool guy all around too.

I've always been fascinated by the Pan Flute and would stand and watch for hours street performers playing - I love the sound. I have been looking for years to buy one, but all that I have seen were cheap, home-made looking pieces. Hi Folks,
My panflute and other items arrived yesterday, none the worse for wear after their journey. That would indicate a travel time of approximately 6-7 business days to east coast Canada; pretty good considering the distance involved and the relatively meagre cost for shipping.
Nice looking instrument! The fit and finish are well executed and everything feels good and solid. The rubber tuning plugs are a nice feature, although I won't be utilizing those any time soon. I've blown my first few notes, and have been able to bend or flatten notes as well, so it will be doable with patience, time and lots of practice, practice, practice! Embouchure and muscle memory are things which, of course, have to come with time.
The DVD is a great introduction to the instrument, and the Herkenhoff book appears to contain lots of instructional text and some history along with the exercises, which will be a big help, and should provide an interesting read as well.

I've been reading.........blowing.........reading.......inhaling........following instructions.........thanks for talking me into getting the book - it's fantastic........blowing some more........finally got a clear note. I don't think that I ever did write you since I received my Pan flute...so here is a report from a happy customer after having your instrument for more than 1 year!!!!
I play several different instruments, and it is a no brainer to admit that your pan flute is my favorite! Many people here in Saskatchewan, Canada, have never even heard of a pan flute, let alone heard one! So, needless to say it is an attention getter right from the start! The sound is so mellow and mystical...everyone loves it! It has held up VERY well too! I carry it in a case to help protect it, but it is always with me, and I am always on the move. It still looks as good as new! It has spent many nights in the trunk of the car in the winter (-30 deg C), and in the summer (+30 deg C), so it has a rougher life than many of your pan flutes, I would imagine!
Your customer service is second to none...and shipping was VERY fast...no more than a week to Canada!
Thank you for your passion and enthusiasm that has moved you to put with in the reach of many people a beautifully built, work of art...an instrument that will soon become a passion to those who acquire it, as it has become for me! Already fooling around with it, watched part of the DVD. I've been able to get out some half decent notes, but I have much much to learn and practice.

I received my panflute Friday. We are in the middle of winter here, I wasn't home, so the mail man didn't deliver it. It spent the night at the post office and I picked it up Saturday. I'm glad they didn't leave it by the door. It's only 16 degrees here now.
I have been trying it quite a bit. I played clarinet and still play the piano a little, so reading music is easy for me. It is a beautiful instrument and sounds great. Right now the lower notes are the easiest for me to play. I was surprised that you can change the key. I think I will learn to play as is for awhile before I try a different key.

Hi Nefertiti, glad to hear you are enjoying your beautiful panflute.
It is built of Maple and it is hand made... its origins are more of a European design rather than South American. Have you watched the animated history I made on the DVD I sent you? Have them watch the DVD demo and animated history sections of the DVD.
I think its a wonderful first instrument for both children and adults... All music requires practice to develop skill and artistry... the panflute is such an ancient instrument and its sound is so magical. The rewards can be great and it is time well spent.

We had bought panpipes for him before but they never made a very nice sound! We have promised him if he can play them well by his 16th birthday in March we will buy him the tenor panpipes. He loves your website and would be on it most days. Do you have any nice cd's that would only have tunes like pua olena ( I hope I spelt that right ) and the tune that would be with the tenor panpipes. Just recently I received a panflute for Christmas from my parents. After two days I can successfully get a semi-strong note out of it without the full breath sound that I constantly produced on Christmas day, and this is all thanks to you. I wanted to thank you for the instructional objects you included with the flute itself along with the "Players Viewpoint", which I use constantly until I eventually memorize each pipe's note. I am now practicing on some of the first songs in the book which are great because one of the hardest things that I am trying to get used to is moving and skipping a pipe and placing my lips on the desired pipe rather than in between two.
I just wanted to say thank you and that I'm glad that you helped me get started and I hope you get more customers and keep the introduction of the panflute available to all the other 17 year olds, or whatever age, who are interested in playing. If you have any other tips or encouragements or whatever, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks again!

I have had the flut now (tomorrow) for a week and I am making good progress. The training meterial is very good and instructive. As you have told me - the low end is not so difficult as the high end, so the highest 5 notes are still not making the clear sound (as was expected) - but in the very beginning the middle 5 was difficult too, and they sound ok now - so in another week I hope all pipes are sounding right. I have found that the breathing is very important - I feel that I do not have enough air to play 8 tones vith full volume, but I hope that it also comes with training.
I do injoy very much playing the instrumest, and I am looking forwart to really melodies comes out from the flute.

I just picked up my package from the Post Office. It was very well protected in the packaging.
The second I got in the door, I opened the boxes and was thrilled to see such a wonderful quality instrument inside!
I am pleased to say, that after a few moments, I have been able to get some lovely rich tones to play. I was also able to find that I will need much practice!
It took weeks to make my bag pipes squeak! And years to play well enough that those with in ear shot didn't run in fear.

The flute arrived today! I am excited to go home and see the video and experiment this afternoon.
I blew a few notes when I opened it, and the sound is beautiful. The lower notes seem to take a gentle breath straight across the hole. I suspect different positions of the mouth will affect sharpening and flattening the notes.

Hi Melinda. Our panflutes arrived today... I congratulate you on your 'packaging' abilities. The box was in perfect condition except for a tiny nick in one side, that barely penetrated the surface. The tenor is lovely & has a beautiful sound - even with a complete novice like myself playing it! The craftmanship is excellent - in fact, better than I had expected considering the extremely reasonable price.
Brad must have mentioned that the pentatonic was a Christmas gift for our son. We got a lovely surprise when we saw you had gift-wrapped it so wonderfully. Thank you for that little touch. I can't wait to see his face on Christmas morning. He's only 6 & he tells all his friends Santa is bringing him a panflute for Christmas - which is invariably followed by "...a what...?". But it's ok if they don't understand. There are many types of wind instruments at his school & who knows...maybe someday, he'll add one more.

Received the pan flute just after I got off of the phone with you. First time, and straight out of the box, I was able to play some simple nursery rhymes with it and began Greensleeves. Definitely better than the synthetic flute I had ordered from another source.

My pan flute came today, and it looks great. Just a question though, how do
I assemble it? Ha ha, just kidding, it came in great condition. I even got clear notes across the scale on my first blow. Oddly enough I just formed my lips the
way I did back when I played the trumpet. Unfortunately it has the side
effect of driving my girlfriend insane (who would have thought playing
random notes for 2 hours straight without forming a song would do that).
However we compromised by having me practice in the bedroom with the door
closed.

If there are any typos in this E-mail, please excuse. It's because I'm completely lightheaded from attempting to play my pan flute which arrived today! It's wonderful - I love it.
Being a pianist I have to get used to the fact that lower notes (on the flute) are on my right, while higher ones are on my left. But even though I've only been playing it for about 15 minutes I can get a fairly good sound out of it (at least every now and then!) and I will keep going with my lessons.
Your book explains everything well and I am so excited about learning a new instrument after umpteen years playing the piano. Your instrument is very well made and I'm very happy with it.

I received that panpipe today and it is gorgeous. Warm and full bottom
end. The high end is giving me a challenge at the start but I'm sure that
is common. I can start on a low note and blow across/up and bring out the
notes but to start on the high end is quite difficult. I know with practice
I will overcome. Thank you for your persistence this flute is worth every
dollar and more. Your dvd is quite good for the beginning stages, do you
have something more advanced?
If you have any tips for the high end I would be blessed. All in all a
great piece thank you.

After an hour or so of red-faced puffing trying to overpower this fine instrument, I finally settled down to a more precise plan of action, and after a few more hours of concentration on instrument placement, and breath control, I finally figured that less is sometimes better, and everything magically clicked into place and started making music. Though not nearly anything that I would want to record, my first melody was very encouraging. My wife even said that it even sounded pretty nice, but we have been married for a long time, and she has probably decided that there is sometimes a place for the little white lie. Anyway, I just wrote a few lines to say that I really like your music on the CDs, and I have already told you about my new pan flute. I will keep an eye on your website for any more things that I just cannot live without.

Dear Brad, I received my flute a few days ago and I can't tell you how pleased I am with it. It is so much nicer than I expected. I can't believe how quickly I am catching on. I travel for a living and it is the perfect instrument for practicing in hotel rooms. I don't think I have sent someone screaming from their room yet. I haven't told my family about taking up the Pan flute because I hope to surprise them with a few Christmas carols this Dec. I did this when I learned to play the Harmonica a few years ago and it really made our Christmas eve. The Pan flute is so much more magical then the harmonica and I think it will lend itself to holiday music so much more. I will be ordering your 10 pipe flute soon. I tend to collect things ( over thirty harmonicas to date) so if you know of any others I should add to a collection as time passes, please let me know. I have just received the Tenor Pan-flute today. (actually, office people signed off for me earlier). So all is good.
As you have said, this pan-flute is easy to play; even without practice, I can play long tones from the lowest to the highest note. I can see that the right instrument makes all the difference in the world.

I received my panflute today. It took less than a week for it to arrive in Bangkok. Thanks for the fine instrument. I'm very pleased with it. I could get good notes from the bigger pipes within seconds because of a bit of previous experience playing the recorder, but the smaller pipes are still a challenge.
The DVD is great too. Brad's explanations of the techniques are really helpful.

My Tenor Pan Flute "package" arrived today (22 Sept.) It was delivered around 10 AM. Not bad for "snail mail" as it took only about 10 days, from the USPS postmark on the box.
I unpacked it, checked it over and everything has arrived in excellent condition. That is the BEST packaging of items I have ever seen.
I really don’t know how you cover your shipping costs, as the packaging material alone, had to be half of the postage fee that you charged. However, I really do appreciate your careful attention to details - such as in the double boxing of the flute, lots of packing "peanuts" and bubble wrap etc. Great job - well done!
I started to view your instructional DVD tonight, but mate; I really had a full-on day and was exhausted. I did manage a few notes and the sound (even though I am not “spitting the pumpkin seeds” out correctly) is really nice and crisp. I cannot wait to really apply myself to some practice sessions, when I am not so tired. So tonight, I will settle for listening to one of your beautiful CD's - the Isle Of Dreams album is playing as I am typing this now.
I do believe I will be back online soon to order again. This time, I thought a smaller, easier to handle beginner-basic model might be easier to carry around (than the larger Tenor one). Therefore, I could practice my breathing skills etc. on my lunch hour and then when I get home, I could apply the skills I have learned to the Tenor model. How does that sound (not meant to be a pun) to you?

Dear Brad,
My Tenor pan flute arrived today in fine condition. I watched the DVD and tried out the basic techniques you demonstrated and was able to get good tones from the middle octave after only a little practice. I'll be working toward getting the higher notes and improving my breathing over the next few weeks. This is my first experience with any sort of woodwind instrument. Music has been a relaxing avocation since high school in the early 60's (violin and mandolin). My wife (Okinawa born) plays samisen and is trying to learn guitar.
I am very pleased with the fit and finish of the instrument, especially since it was priced so reasonably. I really like the sound of the lower registers, very mellow and soothing.

I am delighted with the panflute. I have found it very easy to play my first
notes on it. I should also say that it has been set absoloutly pitch perfect
(the nerd in me just had to check out the pitch using my son's electonic
guitar tuner!)
Also, thank you very much for the additional DVD lesson Brad. As I have
already come to expect from your site, the instructional video contained
therein is excellent. I am now going to work systematically through the
Lehrbuch instruction book. When I have reached a sufficient level of
competency I will no doubt be contacting you again to purchase some more

I should say I am a teacher myself so, when I say that your instructional
video is of a high quality, I know of what I speak!
I have just landed a new postion as Head of Information Technology in a
beautiful old school near York in North Yorkshire. It begins in the Autumn
(do you call it the "fall"?). It has its own church attached to the school.
I have recently visited the church and it has absoulutley beautiful acoustic
properties. So, first chance I get, I shall be taking my new panflute to

Hi Brad,
My tenor panflute had arrived. It is beautiful, everything I hoped for -- large enough to have an impressive range and small enough as not to be unweildy. Compared to my old, slightly cracked bamboo flute it also has wonderful tone. I took it into the woods (I live in very rural British Columbia) and the sound seemed to fill the whole valley.
Eventually I will want to take it places, and it seems to be a bit of a delicate instrument. Do you have any ideas as to finding/constructing a case? For now I will find a box or painters briefcase and pack it with cloth until I can find or make something more permenant.
Anyway, all in all I am very pleased with the instrument, many thanks.

It is absolutely excellent, I'm really thrilled.
The tone I can get makes me realise I should have replaced my old one long ago!
I've watched the DVD - many, many thanks. I am used to diaphragm vibrato but was unaware of the technique of 'waving' the panflute to acieve vibrato. I have also tried flattening the note by tilting but think I need a little more practice on that one!
I feel very inspired now to try new things -watch this space!!!

I´ve been very busy lately so I didn´t have any time to answer.
I´m doing fine. Lot of performances every week pluss rehearsals for a new
concert program together with dancers and band. We were invited to give a
concert in Moscow this summer, so we have to practise a lot.
The tenor is just great. As the top of tubes are a little diferent that
Preda´s , it took a little time to get used to the flute, but now it just
sings :-) I like the soundrange of this flute and the tone. It´s full and
warm. Lovely. Unfortunately I haven´t recorded anything with the tenor,
because I sold all my recording equipment and new hasn´t arrived yet. I
should get it in couple of weeks, so the first thing for me to do with it,
is to make couple of recordings for You.
I have a nice little tune that play on the tenor. It´s called "Jamaican
lullaby". The song is made by Estonian composer and it sounds really nice
on the panflute. I think You will like it.
